EMERGENTS (series).

The works in this series are a contemplation on the possibility of the spirit of the Posthuman. The posthuman has an emergent ontology rather than a stable one. In other words the posthuman is not a singular, defined individual, but rather one who can 'become' or embody different identities, and can understand the world from multiple, heterogeneous perspectives. This liberated emerging person is an eternal shapeshifter, possessing the ability to evolve consciousness of self and society. This liberated being is an eternal shapeshifter, one that is continually able to flower with the times.

The paintings were painted on a digital substrate then printed onto aluminium panels, and then painted in ‘real life’ and collaged. Rather than being a direct translation from tablet screen to material surface, the paintings developed on the digital substrate as in classic painting - through layering, removing, reworking and revealing. The process to arrive at the work entailed a crossing over from digital to material and back again, sometimes many times. Material paintings are photographed or videoed; digital images are photographed through the tablet screen, and natural elements are layered between image, screen and lens.
