EMERGENTS (series). The liberated person is an eternal shapeshifter, possessing no shape that is truly his or her own.
The posthuman, for critical theorists of the subject, has an emergent ontology rather than a stable one. In other words the posthuman is not a singular, defined individual, but rather one who can 'become' or embody different identities, and can understand the world from multiple, heterogeneous perspectives.
This series of paintings are handmade on a digital substrate, then printed onto aluminium panels. Rather than being a direct translation from tablet screen to material surface, the painting develops on the digital substrate as in classic painting - through layering, removing, reworking and revealing. The process to arrive at the work entails a crossing over from digital to material and back again, sometimes many times. Material paintings are photographed or videoed; digital images are photographed through the tablet screen, and natural elements are layered between image, screen and lens.
