EMERGENTS (series). The liberated person is an eternal shapeshifter, possessing no shape that is truly his or her own.
The posthuman, for critical theorists of the subject, has an emergent ontology rather than a stable one. In other words the posthuman is not a singular, defined individual, but rather one who can 'become' or embody different identities, and can understand the world from multiple, heterogeneous perspectives.
The paintings were handmade on a digital substrate, then printed onto aluminium panels. In other words they are a digital paintings* materialised via large format printing.
The painting develops on the digital substrate as in classic painting - through layering, removing, reworking and revealing - and the process includes a crossing over from digital to material and back again. Material paintings are photographed or videoed; digital images are photographed through the tablet screen, and natural elements are layered between image, screen and lens.
*Digital painting is a medium where traditional painting techniques, such as watercolor, oils and impasto, are applied with the help of technological tools such as graphic tablets a various image processing softwares. There are unique processes and contexts to digital painting that make it both distinct from its classical counterpart and unique from other media art disciplines. These include its nonlinear possibilities, which allow for the addition of independent pictorial layers, and which also liberate the artist from the gestures because of the infinite possibilities of stroke cancellation and modification. Digital painting is also based on an intuitive, evolving and flexible approach, due to the continuous technological changes that influence it.
